Secure Safe Seen How We Support Survivors This October

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month – a time to raise our voices for survivors, advocate for prevention, and reaffirm our commitment to safety at every level. At Sentry Security, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home. While domestic violence is a complex and deeply personal issue, security systems can play a critical role in creating safer spaces for those at risk, this is why we started our non-profit Sentry Cares.

This month, we want to shine a light on how modern security technology can support survivors, help prevent repeat incidents, and offer peace of mind to those rebuilding their lives.

Domestic Violence & the Importance of Secure Spaces

Domestic violence isn’t just physical, it can be emotional, financial, psychological, or involve stalking and coercive control. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men have experienced severe intimate partner violence in their lifetime.

When someone decides to leave an abusive situation, their risk of harm often increases, particularly in the weeks immediately after separation. This is when secure housing, protective technology, and victim assistance can become life-saving tools.

How Security Systems Can Help Survivors

At Sentry, we’ve seen firsthand how the right security solutions can empower survivors to reclaim their peace of mind. Here are several ways home security technology can make a real difference:

Smart locks and access control Smart Locks & Access Control
  • Change who can enter the home without needing to change physical locks.
  • Grant or revoke access instantly via app-controlled smart locks.
  • Avoid lost or copied keys falling into the wrong hands.
Always available to monitor and protect your home
Surveillance Cameras Surveillance Cameras
  • Deter unwanted visitors with visible outdoor cameras.
  • Use video doorbells to safely see who’s outside before answering.
  • Record evidence of trespassing, stalking, or property damage.
Panic buttons & emergency alerts Panic Buttons & Emergency Alerts
  • Discreet panic buttons can be installed in multiple rooms or kept on a wearable.
  • Pressing one instantly notifies emergency services or a monitoring center.
  • Some systems offer “silent alerts” that don’t trigger a siren, giving the user time to act safely.
Remote Monitoring Remote Monitoring
  • Monitor the property in real-time from a phone, even when away, included in all of our Sentry packages.
  • Survivors staying with family or at a shelter can still monitor their home and belongings.
  • Instant alerts for motion, door entry, or sound detection.
24/7 Monitoring 24/7 Monitoring & Law Enforcement Integration
  • Professional monitoring ensures someone is always available to respond, even if the user cannot make a call.
  • Some systems can be pre-registered with local law enforcement for priority response.

Working with Advocates and Shelters

At Sentry, we believe in partnerships. We’re work with domestic violence shelters, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations to provide security solutions at no cost where needed most. Read more on our Sentry Cares page.

If you’re part of an organization serving survivors and want to discuss how technology can support your mission, we’d be honored to collaborate.

Final Thoughts

Domestic Violence Awareness Month reminds us that safety isn’t a luxury, it’s a basic right. While technology is not a solution on its own, it can be a powerful ally in the journey toward healing and independence.

At Sentry, we’re more than alarm systems. We’re advocates for safety, dignity, and peace of mind.

Let’s build a safer world, one home at a time.
